UAAC welcomes, as caucuses, groups of art professionals whose goals are consistent with those of UAAC, with a view to support groups of UAAC members with shared interests and with a desire for community engagement and intercommunication.
Co-chair: Gabi Schaffzin, York University
The Design Studies Caucus brings together all members of UAAC-AAUC with an interest in design and its histories, broadly conceived as encompassing a wide range of material practices, objects, and theories. This Caucus has three main functions: to host a space for design research at the annual UAAC conference; to build scholarly and personal networks of design scholars; and to generally promote and support the growth of design studies in Canada. All are welcome to join! We will host one designated session per year at the UAAC conference.
Proposals for session topics, pre-constituted panels, or roundtables should be sent to the chair at the time of the general call for sessions, to be adjudicated by a group of Caucus members not submitting proposals. Proposals should also be sent at the same time to the general call, to ensure consideration for those not selected as the Design Studies Caucus session.
Each year at the UAAC conference, the Caucus will also host a meeting for members to discuss relevant issues and business for the coming year.
Chair: Karla McManus
The Photography Caucus of UAAC encourages the growth and development of photography studies, including the history, theory, and practice of the medium. Active members of the Universities Art Association of Canada who are interested in the study of the medium are invited to join. This caucus will provide members with the opportunity to develop relationships and collaborations across the discipline and give us a home for our research at UAAC. The Photography Caucus will hold one official panel session at UAAC each year. Any member of the caucus may submit a proposal to the panel at the time of the call. Proposals will be reviewed by the Chair and a group of caucus volunteers who will not be applying to the panel in the year of submission. Every UAAC, a meeting of the Photography Caucus will be held to discuss any business arising during the year. All are welcome!
Chair: Stéfy McKnight
The Research-Creation Caucus invites collaboration and knowledge exchange between research-creationists and/or members of UAAC-AAUC interested in the advancement of arts-based methodologies in their research and practice. Active members of UAAC-AAUC interested in arts-based methodologies are encouraged to join the caucus. The mandate of the RC Caucus is to create a network of national research-creationists, create opportunities to share our work, and produce generative opportunities for reflection and support.
The Research-Creation Caucus will host an official roundtable at the annual UAAC-AAUC Conference: members are invited to participate in the roundtable as panelists by submitting their abstracts to the Chair. The Caucus will also meet during the conference: all members are welcome to attend the
meeting.
